Learning Development Specialist


The Learning & Development Specialist’s primary role is to design and develop learning and practicing experiences by selecting appropriate instructional methods, defining time frames and preparing training materials in physical and digital formats. The goal is to facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer
  • Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs
  • State instructional end goals and create content that matches them
  • Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
  • Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc)
  • Decide on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders
  • Conduct needs analysis to ensure all development materials are focused on addressing business outcomes.
  • Build design content, content outlines, storyboards and A/V scripts to support the development of new programs.
  • Author instruction documents to include leader guides, participant guides, and leader-led support tools.
  • Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of programs and deliverables by planning and executing evaluation plans to track outcomes to align with business objectives.
  • Pilot and test programs to ensure that training needs and objectives are being met and training design achieves desired results
  • Must be a leader that sets the standard and expectations through example in his/her conduct, work ethic, integrity and character
  • Utilize a variety of the training methodologies, techniques, concepts, learning tools, and practices to ensure maximum effectiveness of training programs
  • Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to revise training materials and programs to support all areas of CMI and Compas
  • Support departmental initiatives and identify ways to enhance training effectiveness
  • Stay abreast of developments in the instructional design and delivery field and incorporate best practices into current and new projects 
  • Manage all assigned training programs during the design and development phases for accuracy, credibility, and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and critical thinking skills when managing changes in scope, implementation, and priority of a project.
  • Create and maintain a positive and professional learning environment
  • Deliver job specific training workshops and individual training sessions, as needed
  • Create and maintain a positive and professional learning environment
  • Able to deliver, project and motivate trainees through effective training methodologies both in group and individual classroom dynamics
  • Support and mentor new employees in their onboarding process
  • Utilize a variety of the training methodologies, techniques, concepts, learning tools, and practices to ensure maximum effectiveness of training programs

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training professional certifications
  • At least 5 year direct knowledge and experience building learning experiences using the ADDIE model and other Instructional Design methodologies and technologies
  • Hands on experience with an LMS
  • Familiarity with video editing software
  • Visual design knowledge and skills (Articulate 360, Adobe Creative, Vyond), ability to storyboard and experience in how to craft the visual experience that works best with course content
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
  • Experience in advanced course design principles (i.e. page layout, typography, color theory, visual focus, audio and video, print design)
  • At least 2 years experience in developing digital learning experiences using various learning tools including Web-based Training (WBT) creation, along with creation of media such as audio, video, custom animations/interactions, and custom graphics
  • At least 3 years of experience delivering and facilitating ILT and VILT training workshops and seminars
  • Experience working with or servicing a media planning and/or buying company a plus
